Our Vision and Philosophy

Vision

Our vision is to work in unison with Latinos everywhere, regardless of their physical or social distinctions, and together with all those friends of Latin America who want to help us promote the development of our continent through the construction of educational, health, recreational, cultural, and sports infrastructure.  Moreover, we believe that the development of Latin America can be further accelerated, sustained, and enhanced if the citizens, the government, the industry, and the third sector all work together and cooperate for this objective.  This multisectorial cooperation is possible, and our goal is to promote this type of collaboration for all our initiatives.

· Power of Latinos United

We firmly believe that the future of Latin America depends on all of us—and not solely on just a few.  It depends as much on Latinos that live in Latin America, as it does with Latinos that find themselves elsewhere.  We know that union builds strength, but much more than that, we know that unity can also drive a more uniform development, regardless of distinction of race, color, religion, physical appearance, social class, and diverse political or ideological points of view.

· Power of Comunity + Government + Industry + Third Sector

We know that depending solely on the government, the private industry, the third sector, or on people alone to drive development in our region is simply not enough.  We cannot wait for the government to do it all, because it may have other priorities at the time, or it doesn’t have enough resources to do it, or perhaps there is no political will to carry through that project.  On the same token, we cannot wait for the private sector to solely spur development in our region.  Although many of its “social responsibility “projects demonstrate that they are also efficient transformers of society, in the end this is not their main objective, and in a globalized world it will never be.  Finally, we cannot solely depend on the third sector either, since this group has limited resources, responds to multiple interests, and generally work sans any governmental synchronization.  Although this sector is well-succeeded in many of its initiatives, such as mobilizing volunteers, their reach will always be constraint by their finances.

We believe that whenever these sectors of the economy decide to cooperate, all their efforts become remarkably simpler and inexpensive.  Because the projects are worked jointly and respecting all opinions and reservations of the population involved, neither the government nor the private sector have to worry about negative repercussions that can occur with some of their initiatives.  Much to the contrary, the projects developed may elevate the popularity of both, since these groups sponsor and have the support of large sectors of the population.  Likewise, working in unison divides the costs of the project among the sectors involved according to their capacity, allowing for more projects to be created.  Finally, the money utilized for the project is always inspected by more eyes, reducing the chances for corruption or any money deviation.

Why is it important that the community participate in the projects?

We believe that the community should always participate in the planning, fundraising, and execution of the development projects.  We want them to appreciate the project as theirs so that they can value it more once it is complete.  We want them to feel that this project was worth their every drop of sweat and feel proud of what they have accomplished.  We want them to feel so proud that they can share the story of how that structure was built with their brothers, sisters, sons, and nephews.  Furthermore, we know that by having the community participate in the projects they will be more likely to guard it and take care of it zealously, preventing its damage by graffiti, maltreatment, or corrosion.  But more importantly, we want the community to participate because we believe that by doing so they will feel more empowered and capable of building a better community for themselves, their neighbors, and the country as a whole—not having to depend on others to solve the problems for them.
